Brian Stoner, PhD

Brian is a seasoned materials scientist with over 25 years of experience in advanced materials specializing in electrical, electrochemical, and plasma-based techniques. Since 2012, he has led innovation in affordable waste treatment as part of the Gates Foundation’s ‘Reinvent the Toilet Challenge.’ He has built strong industry-academic partnerships to accelerate sanitation technology as Director of the Duke University Center for WaSH-AID (Water, Sanitation, Hygiene and Infectious Disease). He has authored or co-authored over 200 publications and has been awarded 29 U.S. patents with multiple active applications related to waste treatment and analysis.
